NKUSI SHP PROJECT LOCATION
The project area is found in both Kibale and Hoima districts since the river meanders along the boundary of the two districts till it pours into Lake Albert. Kibale district: The District is bordered by Lake Albert to the West, Hoima District to the North, Kyankwanzi District to the East, Mubende District to the South where as to the South-West lies Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Kabarole and Ntoroko Districts.The coordinates of the district are: 00 58N, 30 59E.and is between 680m and 1500m above sea level.The district headquarters are located at Kibaale approximately 215 Kms from Kampala, the Capital City of Uganda.
Hoima district : The district is bordered by Buliisa District to the north, Masindi District to the northeast, Kyankwanzi District in the east, Kibaale District to the south, Ntoroko District and Lake Albert to the west. Hioma is located approximately 230 kilometres (140 mi), by road, northwest of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in that country. The coordinates of the district are: 01 24N, 31 18E.
NKUSI PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Nkusi SHP will have a licensed capacity of 9.6MW. The plant is estimated to utilize 167m of gross head. The overall length of the water way will be 905m. The tailrace length is 256m and will discharge water back into the existing delta and thereby minimise environmental impact.
The power plant is positioned on the North bank of the river to avoid direct impacts with the local community at the Ngusse village.
Project Components will include tunneling works, weir & dam work, cement plant, walkway, penstock, powerhouse and workers camp.
